Queen are the first band to be featured on British coins

The British Mint has decided to pay homage to Queen by dedicating a coin to them, it is the first time ever that this has happened to a band.

Did you know that there has never been a British coin dedicated to a band? Well, this primacy is awarded to the Queen. The United Kingdom Mint has in fact issued some collector coins dedicated to Freddy Mercury and associates.

The press note that accompanied the release defines the band as a group of "four friends who rewrote the rules of rock", which is why it was decided to pay homage to them with an ad hoc collection, which celebrates these global superstars, kings of British rock.

The commemorative coin was released yesterday, January 20, 2020, on one side it bears the inscription "Queen" accompanied by notes and instruments played by the members of the group, on the other hand no less than Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen guitarist Brian May was thrilled by the important tribute and wrote on Instagram:

“Queen and Queen on a coin ?? It's one of those “Who would have ever imagined it on Earth?” Moments! And we are lucky to have so many !!! What would my mom and dad say? This is crazy dream stuff !! Well, thanks to the Royal Mint for this honor !!! Bri ".

And the group's drummer, Roger Taylor, commented:

The coins have prices starting at 13 pounds ($ 16,87), the cheapest, while the silver and gold edition are more expensive. The gold edition is 2100 pounds (2725 dollars). They can be purchased on the Royal Mint website.

Really an important recognition that the historic band absolutely deserves!
