The artist Diana Scherer she was born in Germany and now lives in Amsterdam. Starting from the roots of the plants you have created real masterpieces. She found that roots can be shaped to form intricate and fascinating textures.
Diana didn't work alone. You explored the world of plants and their roots in collaboration with biologists and ecology experts from Rodboud University in the Netherlands. Her artistic experiments are based on the studies of Charles Darwin on the evolution of plants.

Darwin in the book "The Power of Movements of Plants" explained that roots do not grow down passively but move intelligently in the ground. They know how to recognize the areas of the ground where there are useful substances and the right humidity and they know how to move towards them.

Darwin had found that plants are much smarter than we think. For contemporary botanists, plants and the behavior of their roots in the soil are largely still a great mystery.

The artist decided to deepen this topic and apply it in the field of creativity. So she discovered that roots are able to intersect and intertwine with each other, creating complex and to say the least amazing shapes.
Diana Scherer calls this type of project “Exercise to Tame the Root System”. Observing the creations made by domesticating the roots we can understand even more how wonderful nature is and how many secrets still to be discovered it holds.
