Iraqi artist Ali Jamal creates optical illusions using waste materials: felt, plastic bags and even bullets.
Does it seem impossible for the same canvas to represent two different subjects? Not for the Iraqi artist Ali Jamal, 26, who has his own way of making portraits: he creates optical illusions using waste materials.
Crouched on his studio floor, Ali cuts through felt, nylon bags, pieces of colored tape, and even bullets to create his masterpieces. These materials, to which Ali gives a new life, are easily available and, if in some ways they can be considered "junk", for the artist they are a real source of creativity.
It is precisely the choice of recyclable materials that makes Ali's stylistic code unique in its kind.
I tried to find my way and started using this particular technique
the artist told Reuters.
