In the province of Piacenza comes the poop museum. We are not kidding. They called him Museo della Merda o The Shit Museum. The city presents it as an ecological project. We certainly never expected to find poop at the museum. Let's try to find out more about this rather bizarre novelty.

The Shit Museum was born from an idea of Gianantonio Locatelli, owner of the Castelbosco farm. This company hosts 2500 cattle destined for the production of milk for Grana Padano. From the daily management of the livestock, their production and their waste has arisen the need to transform the company itself into a ecological project and futuristic industrial - as its creators describe it.

From poop, or rather, from dung today methane, fertilizer for the fields, raw material for plaster and bricks are obtained, through new concept systems which, in addition to reducing atmospheric pollution and the distribution of nitrates in the soil, follow a principle that redesigns the cycle of nature in a virtuous circle, restoring the importance of agriculture and breeding as always.

Next to the company headquarters, inside a small castle renovated by the architect Luca Cipelletti, finds space, artifacts and works of art of aesthetic and scientific interest: from dung scarabs, considered divine by the Egyptians (symbol of the museum), to examples of use of dung for the construction of architecture in the most distant cultures of the planet, from ancient Italic civilizations to Africa, passing through historical-literary works such as the The Natural History of Pliny, up to the most current scientific research and artistic production that touches the use and reuse of scraps and waste.

The poop museum is described, therefore, as one contemporary curiosity space which finds its unitary guiding principle in the science and art of transformation. Castelbosco as a whole - company and museum - is an ecological laboratory of anticipation, a fertilizer machine, an energy and ideas center, which is described as highly topical in the light of the themes promoted by Expo 2015.

We take advantage of this particular theme to remind you of the beauty story of Fabrizio Bonetto, the former farmer turned vegetarian who now takes care of "Poop cows". In this way the cows are no longer destined for slaughter. Their poop becomes precious organic manure for the cultivation of the fields.

It is said that flowers are born from manure: this time a museum was born. What do you think?
