Two more giants have seen the light again after the start of the new excavations at Mont'e Prana, a large Sardinian necropolis that covers an area of about 160 thousand square meters near Cabras, Province of Oristano.

The mighty torsos, shields and other fragments found would be the remains of two boxers, majestic statues in volcanic rock more than two meters high and made three thousand years ago, at the time of the ancient Nuragic civilization.

The new statues were found in the southern area of the necropolis, in an area not yet searched previously.

Mont'e Prama is a large mine that today returns other treasures, thanks to the excavation campaign being carried out by the Superintendency and which are fundamental for understanding our mythological past - the words of the Mayor of Cabras Andrea Abis.

    - excavations at the site they were resumed last April and are supervised by the Superintendence of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Cagliari and Oristano. A few weeks after the start of the works, the new extraordinary find.

The discovery of the two new statues in Mont'e Prama confirms the excellent quality of the work carried out by the Superintendency of Cagliari. On behalf of the Foundation, I offer my sincere congratulations to the Superintendent Monica Stochino and to the archaeologist Alessandro Usai, scientific director of the excavations. The research, conservation and protection work runs parallel to that of enhancement and promotion: I am sure that on this, the Ministry and the Foundation will confirm that they know how to work profitably together, as they have done in recent months. For our part, having already acquired substantial funding from the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, we are ready to bring to the technical table a major educational restoration project, open to the public - coordinated by the Superintendency - to be carried out at the Cabras Museum - the comment by Anthony Muroni, President of the Mont'e Prama Foundation.

Now the remains must be carefully cleaned so as not to damage the delicate stone used to carve them, then they will join the army of stone warriors, archers and boxers already found in the past in the "Sardinian Pompeii".

According to experts, however, new surprises could soon arrive: it is possible that in the coming weeks the area will be talked about again thanks to other findings.
