They call him the artist of optical illusions, he is Rob gonsalves, whose wonderful works confuse perception. After a few years dedicated to the profession of architect, Rob, who unfortunately left us in 2017, has dedicated himself totally to painting, gaining international fame.
Magritte, Remedios Varo, Kurerlek, are all artists who have influenced him, although his work is one of a kind. It is not a question of surrealism, rather of Magical Realism, Gonsalves in fact starts from reality to depict the impossible, creating surreal atmospheres and highly elaborate optical illusions, which contribute to making his works as fascinating as they are destabilizing.
The protagonists of his works interact with multiple worlds, transporting us to a completely unexpected dreamlike atmosphere.
As in the painting entitled “Arboreal Office”, where majestic trees are gradually transformed into imposing skyscrapers.
