A new new animated film reveals and shows the number of plastic bottles produced globally in real time

Its name already says it all: Humanity's Impact, the human impact. A new new animated film reveals and shows the number of plastic bottles produced globally in real time. One way to encourage consumers to reduce their use of plastics by understanding the overwhelming impact we humans have on the planet.

The images show it, the numbers confirm it. A million plastic bottles are produced every minute in the world, 20 thousand every second. Numbers that do not remain theoretical but that end up turning into concrete problems, enclosed by a word that can be declined in various ways: pollution.

To raise consumer awareness of the extent of the global plastic pollution crisis, film production company Studio Birthplace has made a short animation that visually shows the number of bottles produced in the world. Released alongside an augmented reality app, the project also aims to inspire action towards a more sustainable future.

The film company is the same that created together with Greenpeace the provocative commercial against the British government and the (non-existent) environmental policies of Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The video shows how the entire Downing Street (where the British Prime Minister is based) is invaded by an avalanche of plastic waste, while in the background the images are real statements by the Prime Minister on the British government's commitments to reduce plastic. . This is the pilot of the film Wasteminster.

However, in Humanity's Impact, the location is different: it's an American site from the 60s where nuclear tests took place. The protagonists are mannequins who both in the gardens and inside their cozy houses hold bottles and other objects in their hands. But slowly, a plastic avalanche submerges the delightful town, with bottles breaking through the windows and covering everything.

Pointing the finger at the advertising industry, the fictional characters have overly cheerful expressions reminiscent of 60s ads. Its directors, Sil van der Woerd and Jorik Dozy, said:

We believe comedy can be a powerful tool to help tell some of the saddest stories in our world. We have created mannequins similar to us that not only represent us, but also put a mirror in front of us.

The video gives the creators an opportunity to launch a petition against CocaCola, whose manager said the company will not stop producing single-use plastic bottles because "consumers still want them".

We're telling Coca-Cola it's not true, consumers are tired, is StudioBirtplace's reply.
