Geri is a cat with a two-colored muzzle. This characteristic is the result of a particular genetic condition: chimerism.

Each cat is unique in its kind, but in some specimens the particularities immediately catch the eye. This is the case of Geri, a beautiful cat who has a face of two different colors.

Its peculiar characteristic is not simply that of having the hair of two different colors, but the particular genetic condition: chimerism. Geri is in fact a chimera cat, that is, she has two DNAs that give rise to different genetic expressions: this is the reason for her "double" face. "

Chimerism, a rare condition among mammals, occurs in the womb, when two eggs, fertilized by two different spermatozoa, join and fuse into a single egg. Animals with genetic chimerism have two different types of cells, which originally belonged to two different zygotes. During the development of the fetus, it can happen that the two zygotes merge into a single organism, thus formed by the two different types of cells. The animal will then have two DNAs, presenting, in some cases, the muzzle or even the eyes of different colors.

However, chimerism is not always an obvious phenomenon: unless they do a genetic analysis, some individuals, despite having this condition, never learn about it.

However, this is not the case with Geri, who presents the result of a spectacular mix on her face!
