Avian: another suspected outbreak in a turkey farm in the Brescia area

Avian: another suspected outbreak in a turkey farm in the Brescia area

The nightmare of avian flu returns to Brescia: suspected outbreak in a turkey farm in San Gervasio

The alarm does not stop avian in our country. After the outbreaks that broke out in recent weeks in Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Lazio, the spotlight is also on Lombardy. In the Bresciano, in fact, there are several cases of H1N1 flu in a turkey farm in San Gervasio, in Casacce. This was reported by the Giornale di Brescia, which explained that for the moment official confirmation from the health authorities is awaited. However, there is a great deal of concern among operators in the sector and trade associations.

Already in early November, again in the Brescia area, during the usual monitoring activities, the positivity of some wild specimens - specifically of mallards and wigeons - was reported to subtype H5. In turkey farming, therefore, the outbreak could have broken out due to a contagion due to contact with wild birds.

To avoid an epidemic in the municipalities of the Veterinary District 3 of Leno (classified as a high risk area for the spread of avian flu) some time ago it was forbidden to raise birds in the open. But these measures don't seem to have been enough. It is not the first time that an outbreak of avian flu has broken out in the Brescia area. Thousands of animals were killed in poultry farms between 2017 and 2018.

In recent weeks there have been over twenty outbreaks between Verona, Ferrara and Ostia, but the avian nightmare has returned again to other European countries.
