Monsanto and Roundup: judge reduces compensation by 1/3 to retiree victim of glyphosate

A new case of cancer due to the use of glyphosate has led to the condemnation of Monsanto, a multinational that has been producing this herbicide for years.

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

Il caso di Edwin Hardeman, the seventy year old fell ill with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma due to glyphosate, gets back to being talked about. The condemnation of American justice for the multinational Monsanto, now owned by Bayer, giant producer since 1974 of the famous herbicide called Roundup. But there is a sad news which concerns theamount of compensation.

Judge Vince Chhabria has decided that Monsanto will have to reimburse the man 25,3 million dollars instead of 80,8 million dollars because the latter amount was judged unconstitutional from the court. Despite this, Monsanto's guilt, which had asked for a review of the trial, was instead confirmed.

However it is sad that the compensation has undergone such a reduction, also because Monsanto's conduct apparently has never been positive, given that the company, as found by the same court, has never committed itself to guaranteeing the safety of glyphosate buyers. And Hardeman's own lawyers have no intention of giving up, disheartened by this decision.

Not to mention that the case of this seventy-year-old is not the only reason the multinational has been tried countless times for the same reason.

On the other hand, that exposure to this herbicide increases the risk of cancer is well known, as has also been shown by a study focused on the relationship between glyphosate and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), a tumor that affects the lymphatic system. Fortunately, the sentence to Monsanto, despite the decrease in the amount, came without discounts!
