Today he would have turned 80. It was October 9, 1940 when she came into the world in the city of Liverpool. An artist who died very young but who changed the world of music forever: John Lennon.

The famous Beatles frontman today would have blown out 80 candles had he not been killed at the age of 40, on 8 December 1980, while returning home with his wife Yoko Ono after a recording session at the Record Plant Studio in New York. He was killed by a deranged fan, Mark David Chapman, who hit him with four bullets in front of the entrance to his New York home, the Dakota Building.

His life was too short but it was enough to give the world lyrics and notes that will remain in the history of music, from "Come Together" to "Strawberry Fields Forever" to "Imagine". John was a controversial man but he was undoubtedly one of the most influential figures in pop culture.

During a Quarrymen concert, John met Paul McCartney and from there was born the partnership that would lead to the birth of the Beatles. The first songs were born in the "mythical" residence with the nickname Mendips, at number 251 Menlove Avenue, owned by aunt Mimì, where Lennon lived until 1963 after the premature death of his mother due to an accident.

In the 60s he was the singer-songwriter of the Beatles, of which he wrote most of the songs together with Paul McCartney. In the history of the English charts he is considered the songwriter who has been the most successful. In 2002, in a BBC poll of the 100 most important British personalities of all time, he was ranked eighth.

After his farewell to the Beatles, Lennon continued his musical career as a soloist but also devoted himself to poetry and art. He was a fervent pacifist and political activist and this caused him a number of problems with the US authorities. The FBI long spied on his and his wife Yōko Ono's activities.
