a device do-it-yourself to transform the sun's energy into thermal energy and take it where it is missing. This is the goal of the team of GoSol, looking for funds to definitively launch the "solar concentrator " and reduce the energy poverty.

Useful for cooking, heating and drying processes, the heat produced with GoSol would be available to those who today do not have access to other forms of energy and could do so. building a small solar concentration system directly on site and with the materials available, a kind of solar oven.

Concentrating solar systems convert solar energy into thermal energy by harnessing the reflection of rays through mirror-like reflective surfaces on a small receiver.

In April, the crowfunding campaign entitled Free the sun, with which GoSol hopes to develop new system applications and spread the word open source guide which would allow populations who need it to build their own solar oven.

To date, the campaign has achieved dollars 26.700 but 68.000 are still needed. Gosol has published the first free guide to building Sun1, a concentration system of 0,5 kW, with a mirror surface of one square meter, which requires an expense ranging from 79 to 145 for materials.

The construction time for a 1,5m3 device is about a week, using materials such as iron and steel and using common bathroom mirrors for the reflective surfaces. GoSol is in operation in some areas of the world, such as Haiti, India and Nigeria.

These concentrators can help reduce the deforestation and air pollution, replacing open fires with clean, renewable energy in some daily activities.

“We want to connect communities, entrepreneurs and policy makers with the most powerful energy source in the world. All the tools and materials needed to implement these technologies are already massively produced and stored all over the world " explains he teamed up with GoSol.

The guide to creating a solar concentration system is available for free on the Gosol website and can be downloaded by entering your e-mail address, which will be used to send updates on the initiative FreeTheSun.

The goal of the creators, however, also looks to the long term: their hope is to give life to an economy based only on renewable sources, avoiding the importation of fossil fuels.
