From street art to the title of the Globe Theater. The embrace of Rome to his beloved Gigi Proietti

The Silvano Toti Globe Theater will be named after Gigi Proietti but this is not the only tribute that Rome has paid to his beloved artist

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

We still have to metabolize that Gigi Proietti is no longer with us. The beloved Roman actor passed away on November 2 on the day he would have turned 80. His hometown has decided to pay homage to him by naming him the Silvano Toti Globe Theater, a theater of which he had been the artistic director for many years. But there are several other "non-institutional" tributes dedicated to him in these hours.

To give the announcement that the Globe Theater will be named after Proietti was the mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi, in a post on Facebook:

“One of the symbolic places of his life and his long career will bear his name. I thank the Silvano Toti Foundation. Our city wants to remember him forever like this ".

It was Gigi Proietti himself, many years ago, who wanted to create an Elizabethan theater in the heart of Rome, in the splendid Villa Borghese. A dream come true thanks to the work of the Silvano Toti Foundation.

A theater where Elizabethan tragedies and comedies are proposed and which, among other things, was built with respect for the environment, using wood from managed and reforested forests and perfectly integrated into the environmental and cultural context of Villa Borghese.

As explained by Maria Teresa Toti, president of the Foundation:

“The Silvano Toti Foundation realized Gigi Proietti's dream 17 years ago by building an Elizabethan theater in Villa Borghese and then donating it to the city of Rome. After many years of theatrical seasons with critical and public successes thanks to his artistic direction, we want the name of Gigi Proietti to be forever linked to the Globe Theater "

    And so it will be.

In the meantime, Gigi Proietti received many other gifts from his hometown. Two street artist, Laika and Harry Greb they created some works for the artist's death.

The first mural, by Laika, is found near the Horse Fever bar which in the film belonged to Gabriella, Mandrake's girlfriend, an unforgettable character played by Proietti.

"A small gesture of gratitude for the last great king of Rome," said Laika.

Harry Greb's work, on the other hand, was created in Tufello, the neighborhood where Proietti lived.

The exciting poem dedicated by Pier Francesco Favino to Gigi Proietti is making the rounds of social media these days.
