Tibu-Ron Castelldefels, bar-restaurant in Barcelona, has launched an ecological initiative to try to reduce pollution on local beaches. Unfortunately, also in Spain it is not difficult to find all kinds of waste on the sand, in particular plastic as well as cigarette butts. Precisely the latter are the protagonists of an idea useful to involve everyone, citizens and tourists, in cleaning the coast.
The venue offers a free beer to anyone who brings a glass full of butts collected on Castelldefels beach. In fact, as the managers remember on their website: a single cigarette filter is capable of contaminating up to 3 liters of seawater but this is not the only risk of leaving the butts in the sand.
These in fact have inside them toxic substances which, once they come into contact with water, it takes 5 to 20 years to break up and they are a serious danger to marine species that can mistake them for food.
We therefore ask for maximum collaboration in cleaning the beach, a small but important concrete gesture to take care of our planet.
You can take your glass full of butts to the Tibu-Ron beach bar to get your own beer as a gift. It is the fourth year in a row that the venue has launched this environmental awareness initiative which has, as you can imagine, always a great success.
Also this year the campaign has been very well received, especially by children and foreigners, the most active when it comes to collecting cigarette butts and exchanging them for a free drink (of course in the case of children it will not be a beer but another. beverage!).
The property also offers completely free beach ashtrays for all bathers. This prevents the sand from being contaminated with new cigarette butts.
The Tibu-Ron is particularly attentive and sensitive to environmental issues and has recently also collected (always on the beach) thousands of plastic caps which were subsequently sold to recycling plants, obtaining funds to be allocated to the fight against childhood cancer.
If all the bars near the sea offered something similar, our beaches would probably be cleaner too!
