Cleopatra was buried together with Marc Antony: the world famous Egyptologist Zahi Hawass confirms that he has finally discovered the tombs of the two famous lovers of antiquity. The discovery, the result of many years of studies, would put an end to a long-standing mystery.

After thousands of years, Cleopatra and Marc Antony still together, buried in a sacred place for antiquity about 50 km from Alexandria in Egypt. The discovery is the work of Zahi Hawass, recognized as one of the leading experts on Egyptian antiquities, inspector of numerous archaeological expeditions and also known as a scientific popularizer. The scholar outlined the situation in Palermo on January 12th.

The evidence? We still have only the announcement of the professor, for years he has been engaged in these studies, who has declared himself sure that he has identified the place where the two lovers have rested together for millennia. So the research for the excavation of the graves should begin shortly.

The death of the sovereign, which occurred by suicide in 30 BC, has always been surrounded by an aura of legend, as indeed her figure itself. And therefore the research on her grave had been going on for a long time, recently concentrated in the area.

According to Hawass's words, the burial would take place a few meters from the mortuary temple of Taposiris Magna in an underground but not very deep environment. If, as it is hoped, the excavations begin soon, there would therefore be much to the real discovery, which would be added to the others of recent months, including 8 mummies from 2500 years ago and one from 4400 years ago.

The statements of the Egyptologist were released during the conference 'Recent archaeological discoveries in ancient Egypt' which was held last January 12 at the University of Palermo, and on the occasion other important findings were announced such as there necropolis of Minya, tomba sacerdote di Thot a Sakkara And that of Alessandro Magno.

Research is also aiming to find the burial of the queen Nefertiti and wife of Pharaoh Tutankamon.
