Digby, an Australian Labradoodle, helped fire teams on a Devon highway bridge convince a woman not to jump. She had threatened suicide, but that was when Digby intervened.
The incident happened on Tuesday, when the Devon and Cornish police were contacted shortly before 11 o'clock following a report. Attempts to persuade the woman to go back had been of little use:
The police negotiators were talking to the woman, but the situation was becoming more and more troubling. One of the fire brigade teams came up with the idea of bringing Digby with them… [who] helps crews who have been exposed to trauma. The woman moved to a safe location when she was asked if she wanted to meet the dog
The mere sight of the animal was enough to soften the woman and in fact bring her back to life.
