It is forbidden to leave the dog to himself in the garden, according to the Supreme Court. If the dogs in the garden are without company and away from the house, there is a risk of incurring crime of abandonment.

The Court of Cassation in fact confirmed the sentence for a man that he did not look after his pet properly and will now have to pay for one fine of 2000 euros.

The man lives in Thiene, in the province of Vicenza.

Unfortunately his dog lived in poor health: the owner apparently did not take care of it sufficiently and according to witnesses the animal was struggling to stand on its paws, it gave off a bad smell, he had bloodstains and lesions.

The owner tried to defend himself from the accusations but the Supreme Court decided that the man bears a criminal responsibility and that therefore he will have to pay a fine for what happened, given that it would be a real crime of abandonment.

In fact, the dog did not simply spend time in the garden, as can normally happen, but he lived in a place far from the house, with few opportunities to spend time in the company of the master.

It is a dog practically left to itself given that according to the Supreme Court the animal was in precarious health conditions which among other things caused him a real physical suffering. If the owner had really taken care of the dog properly, he would have realized that he needed help.

The Supreme Court confirmed that the man will have to pay a fine for the crime envisaged by art. 727 cp. judging the man responsible for inflicting severe suffering on his own German shepherd. In particular, according to the Supreme Court, the failure to provide care and assistance is due to a behavior of negligent neglect.

Once again we must therefore remember that who decides to welcome a dog in one's home and family must take care of it with responsibility, think about its health, its nutrition and all that the animal needs to stay well, including games, cuddles and company, as well as of course an adequate space in which it can live well and rest. Now we hope that the abandoned dog protagonist of this story can find someone who really cares about him.
