A London artist came up with an original idea for the creative recycling of the corks. That is, he decided to use them as a basis for his own works of art. To create a large painting, you need to have a large number of corks at your disposal. How to get them to give life to a new art form?
Conrad Engelhardt decided to find a solution to the problem of the recovery and creative recycling of corks by transforming them into raw material of one's art. In order to have a significant amount available, he decided to agree with some restaurants of the British capital, so that they could save them especially for him.
The man made arrangements with restaurateurs in the Shoreditch area so that no corks could end up in the trash, not even the pin which resulted dirty with wine, which the artist considers even more precious, since through them it is possible to create the contours and the shades of the images he is able to bring to life.
At first glance, observing his works, one gets the impression that he paints each cork with tempera in order to obtain the desired shade, but it is immediately understood that in reality the colors present represent nothing but the nuances that the wine manages to give to the corks themselves. It is the artist's job choose and match the caps with the best shades depending on the effect he wishes to achieve.
"True beauty is in the wine", says the artist, who has dedicated the Cork by Cork website to his original works. His works often find their perfect location right inside the restaurants that contributed to the collection of corks, next to the bottles of wine available for the patrons of the premises. At the moment they are 11 London clubs involved in the initiative. The cork of the freshly uncorked bottle inside one of them could become part of a real work of art not much later.
