The resumption of activities after the devastating storm due to the coronavirus is difficult for everyone, and who knows how long it will be. The problem is that even what seemed to us solid and indestructible can fail us. This is the case of the famous Cirque du Soleil: the coronavirus has literally pulverized even the famous circus, forcing it to close dozens of shows and undermining its small army of circus artists.

And so, from the lines of the New York Times, you can read merciless numbers and figures: in a few weeks, the most famous circus in the world without animals had to suspend 44 shows in dozens of cities, leaving 95% of its employees unemployed. less than 5 thousand people.

From here to the very complicated financial moment, the step was short, so much so that it risked bankruptcy. And the streaming broadcasts of his most beautiful shows were obviously not enough. If the paying public cannot go there in person, there is very little or nothing to do.

The circus was founded in 84 in Canada and since then has always been characterized by never having used animals, but for rely solely on acrobatics, dances, beautiful costumes, live music, new technologies and great sets. Over the years, Cirque du Soleil has arrived in hundreds of cities on all continents (as the New York Times recalls, before the coronavirus, seven shows were scheduled in Las Vegas alone), but it is already too long that it has practically stopped .

The circus first canceled its first Chinese shows in January, then - slowly - in the rest of the world, having to manage the repatriation of almost two thousand employees, among other things. According to Daniel Lamarre, chief executive of the circus, the company is considering every hypothesis, including bankruptcy. As we read on the NYT, in fact, while it is true that in 2019 it had more than a billion dollars in revenue, it is equally true that it now has an almost as huge sum of debt.

We will see, according to the American newspapers, Cirque du Soleil has already initiated contacts for possible new shows in countries like China and South Korea, but there is still nothing concrete.
