    Bad weather: the ancient Bourbon arch collapsed in Naples, a precious piece of history is gone forever.

    Because of the bad weather, in Naples the Bourbon arch collapsed in stone of 1700, called "'O chiavicone", located on the seafront. To cause the fall were the storm surges of the last few days accompanied by strong winds.





    A year ago, Francesco Emilio Borelli, regional councilor of the Greens, had asked the administration to intervene urgently to secure it. The arch, a precious testimony of the ancient Bourbon pier, was already at risk, and despite the attempt to safeguard it with innocent pipes, it collapsed.

    Councilor Flavia Sorrentino, embittered by the incident, commented on the news on her fb page with these words:

    “Just a few days ago, after the incredible storm that hit the Naples seafront, I published an appeal to secure and restore the ancient Bourbon arch, the last testimony of the old port of the monarchical era. Dating back to the 700s, born as a landing place for fishermen in the nearby village of Santa Lucia - and during the 800s transformed into a sewer drain terminal, being renamed 'O Chiavicone - it collapsed this afternoon due to the storms of recent days. In precarious equilibrium on a portion of boulder, it could not withstand the fury of the waves. Years of neglect and barrel discharge could only lead to this. The last slap in the face of the memory and history of Naples. Unacceptable."
