The volume is the first of a collection of 150 registers drawn up between the second half of the 500th century and 1779 that make up the series of "Civil Acts - Civilia - Liber ActiCivilis", a summary of the civil proceedings and the depositions of the interrogation reports of the epoch.
It is a particular volume historical value, dated 1540 and characterized by a parchment binding with leather reinforcements on the spine, bearing the indication “Acta Civil… terrae Vetrallae”, stolen from the historical archive of the municipality on an unknown date.
The disappearance of the manuscript had never been reported and it was found thanks to an online ad, in which the volume was put up for sale at the paltry price of 1000 euros.
The images and description of the announcement made the Carabinieri of the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit of Perugia suspicious and subsequent investigations confirmed the origin of the manuscript: it was the missing volume from the archive.
The manuscript was therefore confiscated from the private individual who had put it up for sale and finally returned to the Municipality of Vetralla.
