When you decide to adopt a cat (or more than one), organizing the house before it arrives is essential to make the new family member feel comfortable. And together with the kennel and litter, bowls of water and baby food cannot be missing, which must be chosen and arranged taking into account these precautions:
- buy the right bowl. On the market there are different types, colors and sizes so it is best to choose it carefully also because if you do not know it, cats are bothered by whiskers touching the edges of their bowl. The ideal bowl is made of steel - a resistant and hygienic material - it has a wide base and is not too deep.
- place the bowls in a quiet place, away from the litter box. Unless your kitty is a puppy, the bowls must be well away from the litter box to avoid contamination and preferably they should be on high shelves, such as a mat or on an elevated position if there is a dog in the house. The cat bowl must be the cat's and no one else's. Always choose a quiet place away from too loud noises. Many owners keep their pet's bowls in the kitchen, making meal preparation and bowl cleaning easier.
- separate the water bowl from the food bowl. The two bowls should always be kept separate and in two different areas of the house. It is preferable that more points of access to water are made available to the cat, as the felines come from desert regions and are therefore used to finding causal water sources in nature. It is therefore no coincidence that the cat wants to quench his thirst from the taps. The water must always be clean and never stagnant.
- for each cat a bowl. If you have multiple cats at home then the bowls should not be divided, but each should have their own. This will also allow you to feed them different amounts of food based on their diet and prevent cats from brawling with each other, competing for food.
