Children generally love to wear makeup on Shrove Tuesday, the day that concludes the carnival celebrations. This year, the big events, the parades, the floats but also the small parties between children are canceled, but this does not mean that we cannot have fun anyway, perhaps transforming the face of the little ones into their favorite character, in a animal, etc.
The problem is that even children's make-up is not always free of harmful substances. Ökotest once again draws attention to this issue. In recent years, the German magazine had conducted tests on children's make-up, discovering that some were contaminated with traces of various pollutants, in particular mineral oils.
How to choose children's tricks
The advice of the German experts is to rely on certified natural cosmetics which are free from mineral oils, azo dyes, and questionable chemical UV filters. This is guaranteed by the presence of labels such as BDIH, Natrue, Ecocert and Demeter.
Certified natural make-up can be found in organic shops, bio-perfumeries or herbalists.
Those who have already purchased conventional makeup, however, shouldn't worry too much as several analyzes in the past have rated most samples positively and no makeup has proved extremely dangerous after a single application.
How to protect children's skin when applying makeup
To avoid any kind of risk it is good to follow some simple advice:
- Test some of the makeup you have to use on the baby's forearm beforehand. If the skin is itchy or red, makeup should not be applied to the face.
- Beware of warnings: If the makeup says it should not be used near the eyes and mouth, this should be taken seriously, even if the packaging shows a fully made-up face.
- A greasy cream is suitable as a makeup primer.
- Even if the little ones are very tired in the evening, they must be carefully removed. On the packaging you will often find indications to understand if the make-up can be removed with soap and water, baby oils or other products.
