Too young to drink: shock campaign against alcohol consumption during pregnancy

Alcohol in pregnancy is bad for the baby, it is well known and yet too many expectant mothers continue to drink. The European FASD Alliance then devised a shock campaign

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

Imagine a baby who has yet to be born and who, instead of staying safe in the mother's womb surrounded by amniotic fluid, is in a bottle of beer, wine or spirits. This is the shocking image of the campaign “Too young to drink” launched by the European FASD Alliance on the occasion of the International Day of Fetus Alcoholic Syndrome and related disorders.

According to the latest statistics, 70 million people in the world, 2 in 100 children in Europe and 1 in 100 in the United States, suffer from some attributable defects to the fact that the mother during the nine months of pregnancy continued to consume alcohol despite common sense, as well as all the recommendations of various gynecologists and doctors, they advised against it.

In particular, children who have suffered the consequences of their mother's reckless choices accuse learning disabilities, behavior or even are suffering from real mental illness. All these issues are enclosed under the name of fetal-alcoholic disorders (Fasd).

But can even a glass or two of wine a day really be so harmful? There is no certain answer and it is better not to risk it. About this Simona Pichini, researcher at the Higher Institute of Health she declared: "Since the quantity of alcohol that can be consumed during pregnancy without any risk for the unborn child is not known to date, the obligatory advice for pregnant women and for those trying to have a baby is not to drink alcohol".

The campaign, launched in 20 countries, consists not only of posters and banners depicting babies in bottle (ranging from wine, beer, vodka, brandy, whiskey and rum) but also of informative video messages where, among others, parents with children with FASD intervene.
