Tiger ha drew up the markers sold in its stores, following the tests conducted by Altroconsumo and from other consumer magazines, including the Austrian Konsumet.

The tests they noted quantity beyond the legal limits of two preservatives, as well as the presence of an organic solvent.

Preservatives and solvents in Tiger markers

I two preservatives found in the ink of the markers are methylisothiazolinone and chloromethylisothiazolinone, considered dangerous and polluting, while the toxic solvent is toluene.
The test results showed the presence of the two preservatives Flying Tiger green markers and of the organic solvent in the blue pencils. This influenced the final judgment on the markers, classified as pericolosi.
These substances could exposing the little ones to health problems: in fact, children can come into contact with these substances, getting their hands or mouth dirty while using the felt-tip pens to color.

For this reason, according to the guidelines of the European Commission markers must comply with the European Directive 2009/48 / EC on toys and must not contain chemical substances that may endanger the health of children.

Tiger has therefore decided to recall all the lots of markers sold because, despite bearing the CE mark, they do not comply with Community legislation. The company also announced that it will carry out the necessary checks to solve the problem.

The ranking of felt-tip pens according to Altroconsumo

I Altroconusumo test  they covered 18 brands of markers to evaluate their technical qualities and safety.

In particular, performances such as the duration of writing e ink washability and the quantities of preservatives, organic solvents and heavy metals.

Laboratory tests have shown that most of the felt pens examined are washable from fabrics at 30 ° C but not at higher wash temperatures, probably because higher temperatures fix the color.

Furthermore, the little sustainability of the products common to all markers as they are non-refillable, cannot be recycled completely and wear out too quickly. The life of the markers can be increased by always closing them after use and avoiding storing colors near heat sources.
