Writing letters to make the world a better place. This is the simple but passionate idea put into practice by a UK child of just 5 years old, Toby Little, who has taken on a real challenge with handwritten letters sent to all countries of the world.

The mission begins earlier this year, with a homework assignment from school. Even in the UK, children bring home books to read. In May, Toby chose a volume called “A Letter to New Zealand”, which describes a letter's journey into the world. After reading it, he asked: "Mom, can I write a letter to New Zealand?". The question then followed in the affirmative almost immediately "Mom, can I write a letter to the whole world?".

In the era of social networks and web 2.0, he and his mother decided to take pen and paper and start the "Writing to the World" project starting from the United Nations countries (all 193), undertaking a absolutely amazing and life affirming journey, where people from all over the world decided to get a letter from Toby and answer his questions about the country they live in and their culture.

Toby's pen pals are. in fact, children, teachers, aid workers, animal rights activists, rescuers, directors, real estate agents, ambassadors, nurses and even a president. In short, a nice mix of life. "Very quickly - says mother Sabine Little on Facebook -, we realized that Toby's interviewees were only those who could afford the postage of a letter, and so Toby decided to raise money for ShelterBox as part of his project “.

ShelterBox is a non-profit association that helps families and children who have lost everything to disasters by giving them a box containing all the resources a hard-hit family needs. What was initially just a summer vacation fun project has now become a concrete help for people in need, to which useful items such as camping tents, tools to make water clean and even toys are delivered.

Each container costs £ 590, but the 64 donations that Toby's cause has raised have exceeded the initial goal of 250%. Many children dream of changing the world, but Toby has found a concrete way to prove that such a small person can truly have a major impact on such a large world.
