    Looking at them, no one imagines that these adorable animals were mere stones. What the Japanese artist accomplishes Akie Nakata it is truly extraordinary.





    It brings us back into contact with nature and its creations seem real. Dogs, cats, hippos, owls, tigers are hand painted with great attention to detail. Akie started in 2011, but since she was a child she collected stones and then colored them in different ways.

    The animals are chosen based on the shape of the stones. The artist says:

    “For me the animal is finished when I think I have transformed it into something alive. Sometimes while I am painting I speak to the stone and I hold it in my hand, even if it is not a living organism ”.
