That's why you should never cover your child's pram in hot weather

Strolling with a newborn in a pram, placing a cotton blanket or muslin to repair the little one is by no means the best solution

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

Walking with a baby in a pram in the summer. It is very hot, what can you do to keep it cool? Placing a cotton blanket or muslin to fix the little one is by no means the best solution.

Regardless of the fabric, even if white and light, the fabric creates a sort of obstacle to the passage of air, however, allowing the heat to accumulate inside the wheelchair. The result? The temperature inside the spacecraft, shuttle or wheelchair, whatever you call it, will end up also increase by 12 degrees.

This was revealed by a study conducted by doctors at the pediatric hospital in Stockholm, Sweden, according to which the act of covering the wheelchair, instead of reducing the temperature, creates a sort of furnace effect.

Dr. Svante Norgren, pediatrician at the children's hospital in Stuttgart, Sweden, has explained:

"There is also poor air circulation and it is difficult to see the baby with a blanket in the pram."

Doctors conducted tests to assess the rise in temperature inside an (empty) wheelchair, leaving it in the sun between 11:30 and 13:00. Without the cover, the temperature reached 22 ° C after 30 minutes, but when it was placed on top of the stroller, it hit 34 ° C in the same amount of time. Still, the summer temperature in Sweden rarely reaches 30 °.

Infants are also more sensitive to heat than older children or adults, and their body temperature can rise up to 5 times faster. They also sweat less and this puts them at greater risk of heatstroke and in extreme cases even SIDS.

According to the National Health Service English, babies under 6 months of age should be kept out of direct sunlight. Even older children should be kept out of the sun as much as possible, especially during the hottest hours, from 11 to 15.
