Parental leave and babysitter bonuses, are they due to those who work in smart working?

Mario Draghi has announced new parental leave and babysitter bonuses for those working in the red zone but not for those in smart working

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

Extraordinary parental leaves and baby sitter bonuses arrive following the news of the new red zones active from Monday. This was announced by Mario Draghi himself who made it known that 290 million will be allocated for new forms of support for families in these difficult times. But only some workers will be able to benefit from it.

As we know, on 31 December the previous parental leaves for Covid expired, but now other funds are ready, precisely 290 million, to deal with the new squeeze that provides for an increase in the red zones which will become 10 from Monday.

Mario Draghi, speaking from the Fiumicino vaccination hub, announced the new parental leave and babysitter bonus, but also the right to smart working for the activities that allow it:

“To meet the needs of families, we have already decided, already in today's decree, to guarantee the right to agile work for those who have children in remote education or in quarantine. For those who carry out activities that do not allow smart working, access to extraordinary parental leave or the babysitting contribution will be granted "

On smart working, the Minister of the Family Elena Bonetti then specified in a post on Facebook:

“We have reintroduced the right to smart working for those who have children under 16

while on extraordinary leave he specified:

"Parental leave will be paid at 50% under the age of 14 and from 14 to 16 years will be usable without pay"

Who can access parental leave and babysitter bonuses

Mario Draghi was very clear: extraordinary parental leave (retroactive from 1 January 2021) and the baby-sitting contribution are reserved for categories of workers who carry out activities that cannot be done from home.

So the answer to the question that many are asking at the moment: "parental leave and babysitter bonus, are they due to those who work in smart working?" unfortunately, it is no!

As for the babysitter bonus, then, the possibility of requesting it is more restrictive. As Minister Bonetti writes:

"For self-employed workers, health workers and law enforcement agencies we have provided a babysitter bonus of up to 100 euros per week".

Therefore, the babysitter bonus is reserved exclusively for self-employed, law enforcement and health workers.

In summary, in a note the Council of Ministers made it known that:

"In cases of suspension of school activities or of infection or quarantine of children, employee parents will be able to take advantage of partially paid leave and, for self-employed workers, the forces of the security, defense and public aid sector, law enforcement and health workers have the option of opting for a contribution for the payment of babysitting services, until 30 June 2021 ".

As always, the INPS will take care of parental leave and the babysitter bonus. Applications can be submitted through the portal of the National Social Security Institute.

Also keep in mind that some municipalities or regions have already activated other babysitter bonuses.
