In order to avoid stress and suffering for their pet during the holidays, there are those who give up taking it with them and prefer to leave it at home. Soon, however, things could change. At least in Colombia, where a bill was recently passed that allows pets to travel with their human friends in the cabin.
As explained by Senator Carlos Andrés Trujillo, author of the bill, the initiative was born following the numerous complaints of pet owners who have had numerous problems with the transport of their furry pets. The bill was created to improve the quality of life of dogs, cats and other pets and to avoid accidents on public transport.
We want to ensure that all pets are transported safely, both by air and by land and in this way we can guarantee total peace of mind for the whole family - explained Carlos Andrés Trujillo to RCN Radio. - There are many animals that suffer when they stay at home because they cannot be transported safely and for the owners it is a cause for concern.
The bill provides for the creation of spaces egspecial compartments inside the aircraft cabin, but also of other means of public transport by land, by sea and by river, so that animals can travel without suffering too much stress and discomfort. Carriage in the hold should thus only be permitted in exceptional cases.
"After approval, the Ministry of the Environment is given three months to create the list of accepted pets to greatly facilitate surveillance and control," said Senator Trujillo.
