Mattel launches Barbie Loves the Ocean, the first line of dolls made with recycled plastic

Made with recycled plastic to protect the oceans, comes the first ecological version of Barbie. Mattel announces it.

Made with recycled plastic to protect the oceans, comes the first ecological version of Barbie. This was announced by Mattel, which had long ago declared its intent to use recycled plastics, recyclable or of 100% natural origin, both for products and for packaging, by 2030.

Now it comes Barbie Loves the Ocean, her first line of fashion dolls whose plastic parts made of 90% plastic collected within 50 km of waterways in areas without formal waste collection systems (but the doll's heads, the shoes, tablet and beach lantern excluded).

At Mattel, we enable future generations to explore the wonder of childhood and reach the infinite potential within them. We take this responsibility seriously and continue to do our part to make children inherit a better world, says Richard Dickson, Mattel's president and chief operating officer.

Looking to the future, Mattel seems to have every intention of promoting its role and creating a better world for children, also focusing on diversity and inclusion, equal opportunities and now also sustainability. Only in the past few days has it launched “Mattel PlayBack”, the program that aims to extend the life of toys from a more sustainable perspective.

And not only that, from Mattel also comes a new episode of Barbie Vlogger: 'Barbie Tells How to Help Our Planet', a new vlog of the famous Youtube series Barbie Vlogger, which teaches children the importance of taking care of our planet and shows the impact that changes in daily habits can have. And the new 'The Future of Pink is Green' campaign: the latest of the brand, in collaboration with BBH LA, which exploits the association of the iconic pink with the green - symbol of the protection of the planet - to communicate the next steps towards a greener future and to educate children about the importance of sustainability.
