Shock in China: authorities are killing dogs and cats of Covid quarantined patients, without their consent

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

The news from the country caused a wave of indignation China, where in recent weeks several citizens have been denouncing the systematic killing of pets by the authorities. A video was published on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo, then reported by various newspapers and on other social networks, where two people in white anti-Covid overalls are seen wandering around the home of a woman (who is not in her home because in quarantine) and hit a poor dog with a stick.

The aim is precisely to kill him. Behind this brutal strategy is the false belief - also denied by the WHO - that pets can transmit the virus to humans.

Horrifying moment as Chinese officials in Hazmat suits break into a woman's home and beat her corgi to death while she was in quarantine as part of a brutal bid to eliminate Covid. The dog's owner Fu was forced into quarantine after a Covid outbreak. She tested negative for the virus but health workers put down her corgi. The execution has sparked outrage in China which is pursuing Zero Covid policy.https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10204173/Chinese-officials-break-womans-home-beat-corgi-death-quarantine.html

Unfortunately, that of the dog beaten to death in Shangrao, in the province of Jiangxi, is not an isolated story. There are several citizens who have reported the killing of their pets to the local media while they were in quarantine after contracting Covid. As reported by the South China Morning Post, a resident of Chengdu (a city in the southwest of the country) said that his cats were killed while he was in another house in solitary confinement.

And just a few months earlier a woman from Harbin (in the north-east of the country) had reported on Weibo that her three cats were killed by operators after testing positive for Covid.

Totally unprotected animals in China

In anger and desperation, several people accused the authorities of brutally killing their animals and they did not deny anything and recalled that there is currently no treatment available for animals and that euthanasia remains the only viable option as part of the so-called "Zero Covid" strategy.

What is happening in China is truly absurd, given that there is no scientific evidence on the transmission of the virus from animals to humans, while humans can transmit it to cats and dogs and beyond. Unfortunately, there are no laws in China that protect pets, so it is very difficult for the country's authorities to decide to take a step back. Dog and cat owners just have to be careful and protect them from this brutal (and senseless) policy in place.
