Use i again disposable diapers or have you switched to washable nappies for your children? Huggies, a well-known manufacturer of disposable baby diapers, is at the center of the controversy. Not for reasons related to ecology or pollution, but for gender issues.

Perhaps you have recently seen the last one on TV Huggies spot on diapers with different absorbency areas for babies and girls based on their anatomical differences. The commercial is sparking some controversy as it is judged to be sexist.

It is clear that those who judge this spot inadequate do not want to question the usefulness of making different diapers for boys and girls. The problem concerns the way in which the product is presented, with reference to what are defined as real ones gender stereotypes. The commercial of the new Huggies diapers in fact begins with these words:

“She will think about making herself beautiful, he will think about scoring goals. She will seek tenderness, he will seek adventures. She will run after you, but he will look for you. So small and already so different ".

According to those who criticize the spot, these words contain a real sexist manifesto in which the girls they are seen as taxable persons while i children they are presented as active and adventurous, based on the most common cultural and social stereotypes.

One was born on the web petition per ask the company to collect the commercial judged inadequate because it would present the girls as destined to become "princesses" in eternal expectation of Prince Charming and the children as the only true heroes. Here is the request of the supporters of the petition, who would like the elimination of a spot where anatomical differences are confused with culturally imposed differences:

"We ask that the advertisement be immediately withdrawn, in favor of a commercial that can explain the usefulness and innovation of this product without tracing cultural stereotypes".

What do you think? To what extent are the differences between men and women actual or culturally imposed? Do you find the controversy about the Huggies nappy commercial founded?
