How to make DIY kennels to keep stray cats and dogs warm

Winter has finally arrived, making us feel the desire to stay as sheltered as possible, in the warmth of our homes: an understandable and legitimate desire, also shared by our animal friends. And it is precisely thinking of how many of them do not have a home to return to, of the many strays who suffer from the cold these days, that we want to share the project of the cozy do-it-yourself kennel made by one of our readers.

Winter has finally arrived, making us feel the desire to stay as sheltered as possible, in the warmth of our homes: an understandable and legitimate desire, also shared by our animal friends. And it's just thinking about how many of them don't have a home to return to, to the many strays who suffer from the cold these days, that we want to share the project ofcozy DIY dog bed made by one of our readers.

The idea is of Davide Cirone, who has armed himself with patience and good will to build a shelter as comfortable as possible, choosing as a material chipboard, because it is cheaper than plywood but also because it is more suitable for retain heat.

The base is about 35 cm x 35 cm, even if our reader has worked without the help of a meter, calculating approximately the spaces. The side walls are of two different heights and are both smoothed at the top, so that the roof of the kennel - sloping, to withstand snowfall better - fit together perfectly.

The back wall was closed with a single wooden panel while on the front wall, made by joining two pieces of "advanced" chipboard, it was opened with a hacksaw a slightly raised entrance with respect to the base, to prevent snow from getting inside. All parts of the kennel were assembled using nails and a hammer.

Our willing reader has completed the kennel by placing some inside old woolen cloths and food, in order to make it as warm and hospitable as possible.

And you? Have you ever designed a kennel or shelter to warm your animal friends in the winter months?
