A group of dolphins dragged ashore by some fishermen, the terrible images are making the rounds of the web and come from Portugal
This story comes from Portugal where a group of dolphins was dragged ashore by some fishermen who, fortunately, once they discovered the mistake, decided to help the cetaceans get back into the water. One example, however, did not make it.
The video published on the Animal Save Portugal Facebook page captures the dramatic images of the dolphins imprisoned in the net and dragged to the shore. A near-miss massacre, considering that it is not known how long the approximately 10 cetaceans were in the network.
All the dolphins were rescued by the fishermen themselves and by some volunteers, unfortunately only one did not make it and died.
The video was shot with a smartphone by one of the people who were present on the beach, probably to buy the fresh fish that has just arrived. But this time before the eyes of all those who had gathered around the fishermen, a truly terrible scene was presented.
The episode occurred at Mira Beach, Coimbra (Portogallo) and the Portuguese animal rights association, considering among other things that this is not an isolated event (in 2016 17 dolphins imprisoned in a net and dragged to the shore died), took the opportunity to recall that fishing doesn't just kill fish and seafood, as most people think, but it kills and tortures also many other animals that mistakenly end up in the networks.
The price to pay to get the fish to our tables is often paid not only by dolphins, but also whales or turtles. The nets, in fact, are not able to select the animals to be captured and those to be left free, consequently they carry on everything.
We should remember this more often if and when we buy fish.
