From September we go back to school but there are still many doubts and fears of parents and students about the restart. However, there is good news regarding this sector: environmental education will become a subject of study in schools of all levels next year.
A little while ago at the press conference, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and Education Minister Lucia Azzolina presented the guidelines for the resumption of school, communicating that all students will return to class on 14 September.

On his Facebook profile, however, the Minister of the Environment Sergio Costa announced with satisfaction that environmental education will become the subject of study in all schools:
“I am happy with this result. We are one of the few countries in the world to include environmental education as a subject in schools ".
The minister explained that civic education reintroduced from September will essentially consist of 3 blocks, one of these is precisely environmental education which, becoming a subject in all respects, will be subjected to grades, exams and assessments throughout the year. school.
Civic education: from next year it becomes a subject with a grade, starting from kindergarten
The new matter will actually be called Sustainable Development and, as written in the "Guidelines for teaching civics" (which you can read here):
"The objectives do not concern only the protection of the environment and natural resources, but also the construction of living environments, cities, the choice of ways of living that are inclusive and respectful of the fundamental rights of people, first of all health, psychophysical well-being, food safety, equality between subjects, decent work, quality education, protection of the material and intangible assets of communities. This nucleus, which in any case finds provision and protection in many articles of the Constitution, can include issues relating to health education, environmental protection, respect for animals and common goods, civil protection "
As Minister Costa points out:
“We are focusing a lot on young people, on their consciences and their sensitivity, at all levels. (…) With the inclusion of environmental education we want to ensure that future generations have a greater environmental awareness than what my generation has proven to have "
Indeed, now more than ever, there is a need for environmental awareness and political series to save our planet from collapse. We hope that the new generations will take this challenge seriously to heart and that the school can help them in this.
At least it will be a first, important step in this direction.
