Who is SARS CoV-2 Parental Leave for?
As clarified on the INPS website, the "SARS CoV-2 parental leave" can be enjoyed by employed parents, by workers registered exclusively in the separate management or by self-employed workers registered with INPS in the following cases:
- to care for cohabiting children under the age of 14 with SARS CoV-2
- to take care of children in contact quarantine or with didactic or educational activity in suspended presence, then in DAD
This leave can be requested, without age limits and regardless of cohabitation, for the care of children with disabilities in a situation of ascertained seriousness (pursuant to article 3, paragraph 3, of law no.5 of 1992 February 104) enrolled in schools of all types and levels or hosted in day care centers, affected by SARS CoV-2, in contact quarantine, with teaching or educational activities in suspended presence, or with closure of the day care center.
The working parent who is a custodial or co-worker (ie the one with which the children go to live and reside after the separation of the parents) can also take advantage of the leave.
How much is the allowance for those taking the leave?
For periods of abstention enjoyed, an allowance equal to 50% of the salary or income is recognized based on the job category to which the requesting parent belongs.
Can the leave be requested only once?
No. As explained by INPS, SARS CoV-2 parental leave can be requested several times (for example in the event that the child's class is quarantined two or three times).
Can a parent in smart working also take advantage of the leave?
Yes, even a smart working dad or mom can get the leave. One of the two parents or both can request it, but in the latter case on alternate days.
What can a parent who has had to take leave to be with their child with Covid or in quarantine do?
As the INPS explains on its Facebook channel, in this case it is possible to apply on the INPS website and notify your employer to eliminate the holidays and replace them with Covid leave.
Until when can the leave be requested?
At the moment the SARS CoV-2 parental leave is scheduled until 31 December 2021. For the possible extension of the benefit, it will be necessary to wait for the new Decree.
How to apply for SARS CoV-2 parental leave
The application for Covid-19 parental leave must be submitted exclusively electronically, through one of the following channels:
- through the INPS web portal, in the context of services for submitting applications for "Maternity and parental leave for employees, self-employed, separate management", if you have SPID (Public Digital Identity System) credentials of at least II level, of the Electronic Identity Card (CIE) or the National Service Card (CNS);
- via the integrated Contact center, by calling the toll-free number 803.164 (free from landline) or the number 06 164.164 (from a paid mobile network, based on the rate applied by the various operators);
- through the Institutes of Patronage, using the services offered free of charge by them
"To submit the application for" SARS CoV-2 Parental Leave "you must use the procedure for acquiring Applications for Income Support Benefits - Maternity Service by selecting the items" Parental Leave "or" Parental Leave on an Hourly Basis ", even for children with disabilities in serious situations.
As stated on the INPS website, both for the full-day "SARS CoV-2 parental leave" and in the case of "SARS CoV-2 parental leave" with hourly use, the questions may concern periods of use prior to the submission of the applications themselves, as long as they fall within the time frame provided for by the law, i.e. from the beginning of the 2021/2022 school year and up to 31 December 2021.
