A virus, but also a bacterium, a allergy, a irritation from smoke or other pollutants they can cause it and can accompany a cold, an exanthematous disease (measles in the first place) or irritation due to exposure to very intense natural or artificial light.

Conjunctivitis can affect both adults than children and it is always, in any case, contagious, so it would be good to proceed immediately to an effective therapy (but often it is also possible to avoid the use of drugs). Most exposed to the infection are, of course, children who attend nursery schools or kindergartens, those with allergies or children who have particularly delicate eyes, such as light eyes.

The bacterial form is more frequent due to the ease of contagion, while the viral forms are mainly attributable to herpes infections and the allergic form is related to the general increase in allergies and affects both eyes.

Viral conjunctivitis

La viral conjunctivitis it can also affect only one eye (as well as other forms of conjunctivitis) and usually produces an emission of watery substances from the eye. Plus, it can be related to a cold or symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as a sore throat.

Allergic conjunctivitis

La Allergic conjunctivitis affects both eyes and it is none other than one of the responses of our body to a factor that triggers the allergy (dust mites, for example). Against allergens, the body creates an antibody called immunoglobulin E (IgE) which causes the cells of the ocular mucosa and respiratory tract to release inflammatory substances, such as histamine. The release of histamine in the body can produce various symptoms, including conjunctivitis.

Conjunctivitis, the symptoms

I symptoms of conjunctivitis I'm:

- very red and swollen eyes
- secretions

Conjunctivitis in children

Conjunctivitis is not difficult to eradicate, especially if taken at its initial stage, which in most cases also allows for not to resort to drugs. And this is especially good for the little ones.

When you have children, what you must always keep at home are sterile gauze and physiological water. So every time you notice a little yellow mucus, clean the eyes just with these two tools until you have eliminated all secretions.

If the little one feels excessive pruritus (he rubs his eyes continuously), to soothe the disturbance, prepare some chamomile and, once lukewarm, pass it over the eyes with a piece of gauze, letting the chamomile penetrate between the eyelids. Chamomile is indeed a valid one decongestant natural and soothes the itching. Avoid exposure to light and gusts of wind that could aggravate the situation. If the conjunctivitis does not go away, in the case of the viral form, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops are generally used, in the case of allergic conjunctivitis to antihistamine eye drops. But always the pediatrician should be consulted first.

Also, on days when your little one has conjunctivitis, remember that he / she must not be in contact with other children and wash his hands often. Use disposable towels and pay more attention to washing clothes (especially pillowcases and sheets).

Conjunctivitis, other natural remedies
