Chicco Oasys i-Size car seats have a buckle defect that makes them unsafe. This was reported by Altroconsumo after carrying out the crash tests. Chicco also confirmed the problem and ordered the recall and replacement of the piece.

Despite having passed the homologation tests, the Chicco Oasys i-Size were rejected by the Altroncosumo crash tests because in the event of a frontal impact, the buckle that holds the lower part of the belt can be torn from the seat shell, leaving the child free.

“We will soon include Chicco Oasys i-Size in our child seat test, but given the gravity of the situation we have decided to anticipate the results of the tests. In the meantime, the manufacturer has been informed and is proceeding with the replacement of the defective buckle " explains.

The tests carried out by Altroconsumo are very severe. In fact, frontal crashes are carried out at a higher speed than required by the homologation standard, i.e. 64 km / h. In fact, a crash at 64 km / h against a deformable barrier is simulated, which is equivalent to a frontal impact between vehicles of the same mass that collide head-on while both traveling at 50 km / h. A typical situation when traveling around the city.

Chicco recognized the problem and invited those who bought it from 27 September 2018 to 4 April 2019 to return it for the replacement of the piece.

“Our testing led to an improvement in the safety offered by the product. Chicco, in fact, proved to be attentive and diligent, immediately modifying the project (so the new seats will not have the same dangerous part) and promoting free replacement for all ”confirms Altroconsumo.
