Johnson & Johnson, another conviction, another mega-millionaire compensation. It happened in California where a 68-year-old woman earned over $ 25 million for developing pleural mesothelioma after using the company's baby powder.

Los Angeles Supreme Court justices once again condemned Johnson & Johnson, accusing her of being negligent and failing to warn consumers about the possible health risks of her talcum powder. In fact, according to the judges, the latter contains asbestos and can cause tumors.

According to the law firm that won the case against J&J, the latter should have warned people about the talcum powder contamination.

So yesterday the jury awarded $ 4 million in punitive damages to Joanne Anderson, who claimed her deadly cancer was linked to long-used talcum powder asbestos. The day before, the judges had also ruled that Johnson & Johnson would have to pay the lady $ 21,7 million, because baby powder is 67% responsible for her mesothelioma.

The woman, originally from Oregon, said she has used talcum powder in her shoes and hands for years. She also used it when her children were younger. Experts in court estimated that she used it more than 10.000 times.

Doctors diagnosed Anderson with pleural mesothelioma, a cancer that develops in the lining of the lungs and is often linked to exposure to asbestos.

J & J has staunchly defended itself, claiming that its product never showed traces of asbestos. Furthermore, the company rejected any link between its products and ovarian cancer. For this, he plans to appeal. This is not the first case, on the contrary. There are many compensation already paid out in favor of those who, unfortunately, fell ill due to the use of the talcum powder, considered carcinogenic.

The company is facing thousands of causes who accuse the product of promoting cancer, mainly ovarian, but with a growing number of people complaining of mesothelioma.

The jury's request was presented by Ms. Anderson's attorneys.

"The jury understood that J & J knew about the danger of asbestos in their baby powder and chose not to do anything", he said lawyer David Greenstone.

After the verdict, jurors outside the court cited a 1969 company document relating to "project code 101", in which J & J doctors warned against the risk of asbestos in talcum powder. A juror who asked not to be identified said evidence showed J&J knew they had that problem as early as 1969 but continued to market talcum powder.

We begin to pay the consequences of using carcinogenic products on our skin.
