Extensions made with human hair belonging to people who are locked up in internment camps in China and forced into forced labor. A real horror business was discovered by the US authorities who seized 13 tons of hair products in the ports of New York and New Jersey.

Products that would belong to Muslims detained in forced labor camps in Xinjiang, China, then also forced to manufacture. The seized cargo has an estimated value of approximately 800 thousand dollars.

"The production of these goods constitutes a very serious violation of human rights and the seizure is intended to send a clear and direct message to all those seeking to do business in the United States that illegal and inhumane practices will not be tolerated in the supply chains, ”explains Brenda Smith, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of Commerce of Customs and Border Protection.

It is the second time this year that US customs has executed a seizure order on shipments of hair products from China, on the suspicion that they are produced in violation of human rights. Rushan Abbas, an American Uyghur activist whose sister went missing in China nearly two years ago and who is likely locked up in a detention camp, said women who use extensions should know where they come from and how these products are made.

According to the CBP, the manufacturing process can include forced labor even on minors. "It is absolutely essential that US importers ensure that the integrity of their supply chain meets the human and ethical standards set by the US government and US consumers," says Smith.

As stated in a statement released by the US government, Federal Statute 19 USC 1307 prohibits the importation of goods extracted, manufactured, or produced, in whole or in part, from forced labor and child exploitation.

“The importation of forced labor goods threatens the reliability of the US supply chain and introduces unfair competition in the global market, which can adversely affect the competitiveness and integrity of American businesses. It is the responsibility of all US importers to confirm that their supply chains are free from forced labor in order to ensure the origin and quality of goods consumed by the American public in line with the laws and principles set by the US government and to protect the economy, ”writes CBP.

Beyond the economic question, we would like to underline the fact that we are talking about people who are exploited, without any rights and forced to a miserable life in detention camps in Xinjiang, in the western part of China, where in the last four years, the government has approximately one million Turkish ethnic minorities arrested.

In what are called 'black factories', inmates make extensions, but also clothes for hugely popular brands. Inaccessible places where everything happens, yet the Chinese Ministry of Commerce continues to deny that this really happens.

Yet for some time Uyghurs in internment camps, defined as vocational training centers, have suffered physical abuse, are subjected to ideological discipline, forced to renounce their religion (mainly Muslim) and forced not to speak their own language.
