Endocrine disruptors and allergens in face concealers, Avene and Maybelline among the worst in the test

WECF France analyzed the labels of many concealer brands, discovering endocrine disruptors and allergens within them

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

How "clean" are the concealers we use every day? To find out whether these commonly used cosmetics contain controversial substances, Women Engage for a Common Future (WECF) France, a member of the EDC-Free Europe coalition, analyzed the labels of several concealer brands. Here's what she found out.

The WECF test is actually more extensive and took a sample 47 products belonging to three categories: BB creams, concealers and mascara. These are cosmetics from well-known brands that are also used in our country.

These products were found to contain, on the whole, 37 substances of concern including endocrine disruptors, ingredients that accumulate in the environment, nanoparticles or allergens.

Yesterday we revealed the results of the BB creams, today we are talking about concealers.

What controversial substances can concealers contain?

As we have seen in the case of BB creams, even the correctors can "hide" within them substances that it would be good not to spread on our skin even if, as always they are within the limits of the law.

Some examples?

  • bht
  • butylphenyl methylpropional
  • cyclopentasiloxane
  • ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate
  • phenoxyethanol

All considered extremely troubling ingredients by French experts.

But the following are also reported:

  • titanium dioxide
  • chlorphenesin
  • citronellol
  • geraniol
  • hexyl cinnamal
  • limonene
  • linalool
  • scents

The best and worst concealers

The concealers contain a little less controversial substances than BB Creams but still traces of unwanted ingredients were found in all the samples.

The worst in this category were the brands:

  • Lavera (9 unwanted substances but with only 1 red)
  • Avene (7 of which 5 red)
  • Maybelline (7 of which 5 red)

The products with less controversial substances in the test are:

  • Eye Care (2)
  • Fenty Beauty (2)
  • kiko (2)
  • Sephora (2)
  • Vichy (2)
  • The Body Shop (2 but with a red)
  • L'Oreal (2 but with a red)
