From today on breast milk is brought to the nursery with the bottle. It happens in Liguria, where the new guidelines regional regulations on school catering, which will come into force next spring and also contain measures onbreastfeeding.
Just to favor the continuation of thebreastfeeding with breast milk for children who attend nurseries in Genoa and Liguria, the Region has already approved the excerpt concerning thebreastfeeding with the methods for collecting and storing the milk in kindergartens, also to encourage their attendance by younger children, thus acknowledging the solicitation of “Milk League“, The international association that supports women who wish to breastfeed.
In Liguria there are already some kindergartens, both in Genoa and in the provinces of Imperia and Savona, which are equipped to favor thebreastfeeding during the attendance of children, but the goal is to extend the practice as much as possible.
"With the standardized procedures for the collection of breast milk that have been defined together with the Ligurian ASL - explains the commissioner Montaldo - the nurseries can safely provide for the withdrawal of the bottle of milk and administration to children. We expect that the most virtuous kindergartens in promoting breastfeeding can be indicated, through a white stamp, in a regional list that will be placed on the website of the Liguria Region ".
In this way, even those mothers who, due to work problems, cannot go to the nursery in person will still be able to take advantage of the administration service. breast milk, previously collected by the same mother and delivered to the structure. These are initiatives aimed at promoting breastfeeding with a view to health prevention and support for parenthood.
"UNICEF and the World Health Organization - adds Cristina Lubrano, Unicef Liguria contact person - estimate that if all children were exclusively breastfed in the first six months of life, each year, the lives of about 1,5 million of them, victims of disease and malnutrition, would be saved. Therefore, we believe that greater information on the subject and support for future mothers is of fundamental importance ”.
