Eyewitnesses report that one of the two giraffes traveling on an open truck hit the lower part of an overpass that was along the roadway, near Pretoria. Both animals had been taken to a veterinarian after the accident, but the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) reports that one of them died on arrival.
“All we can see at this stage is a severe head injury. We are continuing our investigation in order to eventually establish criminal charges against those responsible. We believe that the method in which the animal was transported was incorrect. His death could have been avoided" lets know Rick Allan of the NSPCA.
Many eyewitnesses reported the incident, by posting images captured with smartphones on social media.

The similarity of the incident to the one narrated in the film "The Hangover 3" is incredible. Too bad that this time the news is true, with a giraffe in flesh and blood ended up being the victim of more than irregular transport of animals.
The story of the poor giraffe has gone viral around the world and a lot of controversy has sparked in South Africa. One wonders how it was possible that the driver has circulated without guaranteeing the safety of the giraffes, which seem to have also hit their heads against billboards during the journey.
