8 glasses of water a day? Unnecessary. Better to supplement with fruits and vegetables

Science has never been able to practically prove that drinking more water keeps skin hydrated and makes it look healthier: this is how an American expert explains why 8 glasses of water a day are useless

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

Drink lots of water? What is certain is that the assumption has always been that of consume a lot of it to do so much plin plin, eliminate toxins and excess fluids, accelerate the metabolism and so on.

But if on the one hand, at a certain point, we were presented with the other side of the coin with the story of the so-called "Aquaholism"(Ie addiction to water, but there was talk of excessive consumption ...), now the New York Times gets everything out of the way and gives us a sermon like this on the substantial uselessness of 8 glasses a day.

To support this thesis is Aaron Carroll, professor of Pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine and author of some scientific papers on the subject. As if to say, he took it to heart and so it is: drinking at least 2 liters of water a day is only one false myth which has no scientific basis.

In the New York Times online version explains his theory declaring himself disheartened because we mere mortals would not have understood the real message: that is, people believe that get such a belly of water is really useful while, in reality, water is also found in what is healthy for us.

The expert recalls that several essays and a book of his on the false myths of medicine have come out, yet people think that at the basis of this idea of 2 liters and more of water per day there is one recommendation of the Food and Nutrition Board, which argued on the need to introduce at least 2,5 liters of water per day.

But we forget, says Carroll, “that they were included in the recommendation also the sources of water contained in food. In fact, water is present in fruit, vegetables, coffee, tea, beer, wine and although I myself recommend water as the main and best source of hydration, it cannot be said that it is the only ".

On the other hand, it is something that we too have always thought: what we eat also contributes to our hydration (foods rich in water such as tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon and melon). And remember also fresh smoothies or juices made at home with fruit and vegetables.

In short, what the American doctor claims is that science has never been able to practically prove that drinking more water keeps the skin hydrated and makes it look healthier. And, when we talk about "high consumption" of water, it would mean in any case "much less than 8 glasses a day ".

The summary, in essence, would be that it is enough to follow a diet rich in fruit and vegetables and we are good to go. Don't drink water, but don't get dehydrated either. Let's say that the ideal would be to drink the right amount required by our body, a quantity that differs according to one's eating habits, age and activity.
