Turtle found coiled on a fishing line

A 'Caretta caretta' turtle that had a line and a longline twisted to the right front swim fin was rescued off Filicudi

A line and longline twisted into the right front swim fin. Thus a Caretta Caretta was found, off the coast of Filicudi. Fortunately, the turtle was saved by the “Filicudi Wildlive Conservation” association headed by the Roman biologist Monica Blasi.

Yet another victim of our seas.

“Today we saved this young Caretta caretta from certain death. Truly good luck to cross our boat off Filicudi, despite a bit of sea! Maybe a year that the poor girl was dragging this rope twisted to the longline that choked a fin almost to amputate it ”, reads the association's Facebook page.

The most chilling thing is that it is not the first time that the turtle has risked his life. From the identification plate, the researchers discovered that the turtle is called "Crow" and that it was released in Pescara three years ago, after being rescued from a trawling net.

“Fishing for tuna and swordfish is not a selective fishery and is one of the most serious causes of mortality for cetaceans and sea turtles in the Mediterranean. These images of the turtle that we found yesterday off Filicudi speak for themselves ”, writes the association again.

The story of 'Crow' has been reconstructed thanks to the help of the biologist of the Cetacean Recovery Center of Pescara Vincenzo Ulivieri.

According to biologist Monica Blasi, the tortoise was exhausted and certainly wouldn't have made it.

“The turtle - continues the biologist - was transferred to the First Aid Center for sea turtles in Filicudi to undergo radiological investigations. An adventure at sea with a happy ending ".
