This is what a child or teenager should learn in 2021

This is what a child or teenager should learn in 2021

What can our kids learn from this pandemic? Here are the good intentions for a much better new year.

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

All is not lost, come on! It is a huge effort, of course, and beyond the fatigue that this pandemic entails, there is light all around. There is the awareness that, like it or not, we have to learn something from this experience. Which is not only how to face an intimate pain (which each of us sadly will have to process), but also how to get out of an obstacle course as unscathed as possible. Is there anything good to get out of the pandemic hat? Yes, very likely.

It is true that the coronavirus has had the recklessness to change the way we understand life and relate to each other. The first modern global pandemic that caused a humanitarian, health and economic crisis around the world. An ugly deed from which a minimum of positivity (and it is not a play on words) we must also pull out: in a post-virus world we will finally be able to concentrate our "education" on the human and social dimension and give our children the skills necessary to be able to face life and adversity?

An absolutely exceptional event actually accelerated some dynamics and showed us that we can be more resilient than we ever thought. New mechanisms that have forced us to change our way of sharing with others, of working, of making projects. Our habits and preferences, our free time and the way we consume. And not only that: in a short time, we surprised ourselves to see ourselves able to manage emotions for which we were not prepared and to analyze our emotional world. Coping with the loss of loved ones in silent and distant pain, too far away at times.

What comes out of it? If we are attentive for a moment, this is what the pandemic can teach us: to try to face change and uncertainty with courage and enthusiasm, to know how to live in balance between dreams and fatigue, to be aware that the most important thing is our attitude towards life. .

So what should we teach a child or teenager in this new year 2021?

    Here are some essential points:

    • Life is a continuous learning, we hold every moment as a precious thing, because nobody knows what will happen tomorrow
    • We encourage our kids to do what makes them happy every day, to look for what lights up their eyes
    • Connecting heart, body and brain and cultivating the inner world. Develop emotional intelligence that allows them to understand, modulate and transform emotions and understand people's feelings, developing empathy and understanding

    • Working to face daily challenges, transform mistakes into opportunities, seek solutions creatively without excuses or delays
    • Thinking for themselves freely, critically and creatively, analyzing everything they hear or see, asking questions that help them think correctly
    • Develop interpersonal socio-emotional skills, such as resilience, self-knowledge, self-regulation or self-esteem, which enable them to cope with adversity
    • Cultivating a positive spirit, believing that it is possible, knowing that the will to live trains every day, believing that each step brings you closer and closer to a goal
    • Be aware that the planet does not belong to them and that therefore they must take care of it: save energy, recycle and be responsible for its consumption
    • Knowing that the most important things cannot be bought with money, value what they have and teach them to be grateful to all those people who take care of them on a daily basis
    • Surround yourself with people who rejoice in their successes, who offer them good advice, and who criticize them constructively

Let's hope, then, believe it. This 2021 must necessarily get better and offer our children and teenagers thousands of opportunities to learn.

Our task? Being adults capable of being by their side, they need us. Even if they will never admit it.
