This artist transforms children's drawings into extraordinary soft toys

Children's drawings are often incomprehensible, especially during the first years of life but over time they begin to take on recognizable features. For parents, the first interpretable and meaningful scribbles are real works of art, often jealously preserved. An artist must have thought the same thing and decided to transform her children's drawings into puppets "in flesh and blood"

Children's drawings are often incomprehensible, especially during the first years of life but over time they begin to take on recognizable features. For parents, the first interpretable and meaningful scribbles are real works of art, often jealously preserved. An artist must have thought the same thing and decided to transform her children's drawings into puppets "in flesh and blood".

È Wendy Tsao from Child's Own Studio, an old acquaintance of ours. Originally from Vancouver, she had already turned the Bratz dolls inspired by the symbolic women of our times, from Frida to Malala, from Jane Goodall to JK Rowling.

For some years, however, he has decided to transform the fruit of the imagination of children into reality, armed with papers and colors.

The toys, which she calls “softies”, reflect the creativity of children. Everything they can dream of - from rainbow cats to three-headed monsters - are brought back to life through Tsao's unique work, which she gives to little new cuddly companions inspired by what they have drawn.

The artist made his first toy in 2007, transforming his 4-year-old son's self-portrait into an original soft toy. Tsao says:

"I loved him because it was his first creative effort to make sense of his world."

Since then, he has delighted children all over the world with his creations, putting the time, love and care to create around 120 games a year.

“I am an artist and I appreciate creativity in all spheres of life, including works of art for children. Every child's drawing I see was created with unique vision and skill. The drawings are always original and distinct, like the children themselves (and almost everyone smiles) ”, writes Tsao. Each softie is an art project between me and the child, where I do my best to capture the spirit of the drawing in my own unique way ”.

His Child's Studio today collaborates with non-profit organizations and schools with programs that enhance the creativity of the little ones.
