Two giraffes struck by lightning during the storm

Due giraffe housed in a zoological park are died after being struck by lightning.

It happened to the zoo safari Lion Country Safari, Florida, who announced the two animals' deaths on their Facebook wall a few hours ago.

The sad story took place six weeks ago, but park staff waited for the autopsy results before officially disclosing the news of the death of giraffes.

Despite having numerous shelters at their disposal, during the storm the two giraffes were in an open and not sheltered space, probably because they were taken by surprise by the bad weather.

Finding himself on the pasture during a severe storm their long necks served as a lightning rod, killing the two animals instantly.

The two giraffes were named Lily and Jioni and the Lion Coutry Safari staff say they are deeply saddened by the loss of the two specimens.
