The Ratufa indica is a specimen that lives in the Maharashtra region, in central-western India and it is not uncommon to meet one of these particular squirrels at the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to a few thousand.

The squirrel is much larger than other similar specimens: the Ratufa is 35 centimeters long and has a thick tail that can even reach 60 centimeters and which allows it to cling to trees and move among the branches.
